Community Outreach

Community is a great frame for thinking about our past and the peoples who have come before us.  Linking those past communities to our current society, culture and organizations is an exciting avenue of discovery both about the past and about the present day. The events on this page are CWA led by our experienced archaeologists and archeological mavens.

Learning

There are all kinds of ways to learn more about Wisconsin Archeology.  The CWA has a number of offerings to support that diversity

  • In-School: Single lesson plans, in-class presentations, or a CWA led field trip to local sites.  $$$

  • At Home: Home School lesson plans, Grandparent/Grandkids activities and pointers to kits available for purchase

  • Continuing Education: Pointers to offerings at Madison educational institutions

CWA Led Site Visits

Not sure you're ready to head out on your own? Join a CWA led site visit when one of our experts will provide on-site insight and explanations of Wisconsin archeological sites

  • Aztalan State Park: located in central Wisconsin

  • Copper Culture State Park:  Located above Green Bay in North Eastern Wisconsin's 

  • Cranberry Creek Archeological District:  Located in the Fox Valley

Presentations and Demonstrations

CWA experts are available to come to your club or organization for a single presentation, demonstrations of ancient craft, or consultations on archeology topics.

  • Talks: Our experts can provide interesting and insightful discussions for a single meeting. 

  • Demonstrations:  Get your organization hands on with flint knapping, pottery or other CWA led ancient crafts.

  • Consultation: LNeed help organizing your collection or advice on artifact preservations.  CWA experts can help.

CWA Hosted Events

CWA events are hosted at our Wakeman St. facility in Madison, WI.

  • Movie Night: Screenings of archaeological documentaries.

  • Book Club:  Read and discuss some of the best books on Wisconsin archeology. 

  • Open Lab Nights:  Come to the CWA to take advantage of our on-site lab facilities.​
