Tour of Aztalan – Fall 2026

Join the Center for Wisconsin Archaeology’s Fall 2026 tour of the ancient town of Aztalan located in Aztalan State Park near Lake Mills along the Crawfish River.

A thousand years ago, First Nations people in what is today Wisconsin experienced an unprecedented set of events that led to the establishment of a true town with flat-topped platform mounds, plazas, fortification walls with towers and complex social and political dynamics. For over 150 years, researchers and the public have sought explanations for the emergence of this town and the impacts it had on other First Nations people who lived in the region. Take an approximately two hour tour to experience the site and get caught up with the most up-to-date research from archaeologists.

George W. Christiansen III, who has worked extensively with the artifacts from the site, will be leading the tour.
