Vampyre: Fact and Fiction in the Modern Era
Tales of vampires did not begin with the publication of Brahm Stoker’s Dracula in 1897. If that is true, then a fair question is when did vampires enter into the consciousness of humanity? Furthermore, given the popularity of vampires even today in the 21st century, is there any truth to the concept of vampirism and if there isn’t, how might people have come to create such a monster? Fortunately, the field of Anthropology provides an ideal set of tools to scrutinize the concept of vampires through biology, linguistics, ethnology/folklore, and archaeology. Join us for light appetizers, non-alchoholic beverages, and a lecture on the anthropological analysis of vampires and vampirism. It may change the way you think about this favorite perennial seasonal topic!
