Wisconsin has a rich human history reaching back over 20,000 years to the time when the last glaciers began their retreat and hunter/gatherer tribes moved into the area on its heels. Wisconsin has be populated more or less continuously since that time, through changing flora and fauna, advancing and retreating lakes and waterways, and introduction of new populations. All of these peoples left artifacts, impacts on the landscape, and other traces of their history and culture
