Next Step in Our Outreach

Wisconsin has a rich human history reaching back over 20,000 years to the time when the last glaciers began their retreat and hunter/gatherer tribes moved into the area on its heels.  Wisconsin has be populated more or less continuously since that time, through changing flora and fauna, advancing and retreating lakes and waterways, and introduction of new populations.  All of these peoples left artifacts, impacts on the landscape, and other traces of their history and culture.  Who we are today and who we become tomorrow can be illuminated in part by understanding what has come before us and how the land, the people on it, and their cultures and history have evolved into our present day.

The Center for Wisconsin Archeology has a slightly more abreviated history (2013) than the human occcupation of the state. But over that span we've collected so much information and perspective that we want to share.
